Chiropractic Care Rehabilitation For Spondylolisthesis

Spondylolisthesis

Understanding Spondylolisthesis

Spondylolisthesis is a common lower back spinal fracture that causes pain and disability, and often leads to progressive issues. Most people are unaware of the benefits of chiropractic spinal rehabilitation for this condition.

Traditionally, managing pain involved taking addictive medications and, when unbearable, opting for costly and highly invasive spine surgery, which can have serious negative consequences.

Our Unique Approach

Complete Spine Solutions in Tucker, GA offers a groundbreaking spinal rehabilitation protocol to improve spondylolisthesis without surgery.

Imagine a vertebra that has slipped out of its proper position due to a fracture. This situation puts undue stress on the spinal cord, nerves, and discs, causing pain and instability. The future for those with spondylolisthesis can be daunting, but our scientifically-based approach offers hope.

Spondylolisthesis Lower Back Pain

Case Study: Overcoming Spondylolisthesis

Patient Background

A 20-year-old athletic male suffered from various health issues due to his lower back fracture, including thigh soreness, weakness, and cold feet. Despite trying foam rollers, physical therapy, and medications, his symptoms persisted.

Our Treatment Methods

We stress-tested the vertebrae to ensure they would respond to our corrective treatments. Once confirmed, we developed a spinal remodeling protocol that involved:

  • Using gentle front-to-back forces on the front of the spine to reposition the vertebra
  • Stabilizing areas above and below the affected segment
  • Applying gentle front-to-back forces the abdomen to reposition the vertebra

This non-surgical approach includes targeted spinal adjustments, custom exercises, and site-specific traction.

Outcome

Spondylolisthesis Before After Outcome

The results were astounding. We reduced the spondylolisthesis from a significant 25-50% shift to less than 25%, moving from a 13.7mm displacement to 5.7mm. This patient’s condition improved dramatically, achieving:

  • 95% reduction in thigh soreness and leg weakness
  • 70% reduction in cold feet
  • 80% improvement in indigestion
  • 65% improvement in deep sleep
  • 55% increase in energy

Following treatment, the patient was able to run a half marathon. Our non-surgical, corrective chiropractic rehabilitation procedures not only improved his current life, but also his future health. We continue to work with him to further reduce the displacement and enhance his stability.

Please bear in mind, that this is NOT an isolated case. Many Spondylolisthesis cases have been successfully treated in our office. Recent research has demonstrated that this is the only alternative treatment that can improve/reduce spondylolisthesis grades without surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Spondylolisthesis?

According to the US Library of Medicine, spondylolisthesis is a condition in which a spinal bone (vertebra) moves forward out of the proper position.

What Causes a Spondylolisthesis?

In children, spondylolisthesis usually occurs between the fifth bone in the lower back (lumbar vertebra) and the tailbone (sacrum). It is often due to a birth defect in that area of the spine or acute trauma.

In adults, the most common cause is abnormal wear on the cartilage and bones, such as arthritis. The condition mostly affects people over 50 years old. It is more common in women than in men.

Certain sports activities, such as gymnastics, weightlifting, wrestling (that’s how I probably got mine), and football, greatly stress the bones in the lower back. They also require that the athlete constantly overstretch (hyperextend) the spine. This can lead to a stress fracture on one or both sides of the vertebra. A stress fracture can cause a spinal bone to become weak and shift out of place. Bone disease and fractures can also cause spondylolisthesis.

What grade is a 4 mm spondylolisthesis?

4mm does not equal grades of spondylolisthesis, it’s the percentage of slippage forward vs. the bone below. The grade of your condition is based on the distance from the posterior edge of the superior body of the vertebrae to the same edge of the inferior vertebral body. The ratings range from spondylolisthesis grade 5: grade 1 spondylolisthesis is the least severe and grade 5 is the most severe. To diagnose this condition, your chiropractor will take X-rays in order to see if any of the bones in your vertebrae have slipped or are misaligned.

How many mm is a grade 2 spondylolisthesis?

The ratings range from from spondylolisthesis Grade 1 to spondylolisthesis Grade 5. Grade 1 is the least severe and Grade 5 being most severe. Grade 2 is a 25-50% forward of the bone below.

I’ve been coming to Complete Spine Solution for about 4-5 years now (I think). Very thankful for the work Dr. Shapiro and his team does here. I visited the chiropractor due to severe lower back pains. It was starting to hinder me and the physical activities I was partaking in. After consistent treatment … More and managing to keep up with my biweekly visits I’m happy to say don’t experience the pains that I used to.

I’ve been going to CSS going on 3 years now and I always look forward to going every time because of the friendly staff and their attention to detail for every patient. They treat us like family. As a father of two kids now, the treatment to my spine has given me that extra boost to get over injuries … More and sickness and has improved my posture along the way. It probably has prevented injury to my back and body in my work in agriculture and farming. I also take one of my children for treatment on a regular basis and notice his posture has been really strong since starting him off at an early age. We hope to see our youngest child take the same path. I am very appreciative to the CSS team for guiding our family on a journey to a healthy lifestyle.

This place was my last ditch effort to relieve the pain of having 2 herniated disks before planning for surgery. I didn't have any positive expectations as I didn't think they could do any real work having to work around the herniated disks. Turns out I am extremely ignorant when it comes … More to chiropractic care! My level of pain before coming here was any where from 1 to 4 (out of 10). Since my treatments, it doesn't rise above 1 and that is only occasionally. The entire staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I am currently recommending them to my family members as I am now aware that almost everyone can benefit from this type of treatment.
